Biking at Clair Tappaan Lodge

Road and mountain biking in the neighborhood of CTL are wonderful activities when the snow is gone. There are rides for all skill levels from the paved path along the Truckee River to the challenging single-track Hole-in-the-Ground trail making CTL a great base camp for biking adventure. Lance Armstrong would think nothing about leaving CTL in the morning, take a spin around Lake Tahoe and being back for supper. Beginners will find more modest rides

Here are some examples of rides in the vicinity of CTL:

Donner Pass Road down to Donner Lake and Truckee (up to 19 miles, 1200 feet of elevation gain round trip) has views of the scenery and the railroad tunnels and snow sheds built by Chinese workers in the 1860s. It also passes by the Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum. It is flat along Donner Lake to Truckee.

Truckee River Path from Tahoe City to Squaw Valley is a great beginner’s ride, even for kids.

Pole Creek Area offers miles of rides on dirt roads for those in good shape.

3. This structure may not look like much, but railroad history buffs will want to see this capped 75 foot shaft dug down through solid rock by Chinese railroad workers to speed up construction of the Transcontintntal Ralilroad. It is on the west side of Donner Pass Road across from the Sugar Bowl Academy parking lot.
